The Silco Theater opened in 1923 as The Liberty Theater. In 1926 the name was changed to The Silco Theater to reflect the economic drivers of the town’s economy. (SILver and COpper) It continued as a movie theater until the late 60’s when the building became the home of the Union Furniture store. then later became the Silco Mini-Mall. The Woodhall family bought the building in 1998. They started converting it back into a theater by replacing the roof, opening up the performance hall, and installing historic lighting.
The building was bought again in 2002 by Repeat Boutique. In January 2006, Silver City MainStreet project re-opened the theater as a facility for events and meetings. A lobby and performance space was re-created, with removable theater seats, customizable storage platforms, projection screens, and a sound system.
The Silver City MainStreet Project had bigger and better vision for The Silco. Fundraising for an extensive renovation began in earnest in August of 2012. Though there were many stalls and bumps along the way, the new and improved Silco Theater (2.0) opened its door once again as a movie theater. Though it has but one screen, the 156 seat, all digital theater has been embraced by the community. The Silco, after 55 years of being something other, opened again as a movie theater on February 26, 2016. You will be able to see our beautiful, neon lit, marquee for many years to come. Visit The Silco – Your Hometown Theater and experience a variety of movies in a clean comfortable environment. Be blown away by our new digital projection and sound.
